PAIN

My new favorite game on PS3 is a down-loadable game called PAIN. Basically your character is a human slingshot-pellet that is launched into the air using a giant slingshot. The object is to inflict as much damage (and Pain) as you can to a city skyline. My favorite game mode is “Fun With Explosives” where you basically have to blow up as many boxes as you can using your body and falling debris. Mindless entertainment. Check it out if you have PS3. You can view the trailer below.

My Name is Ron and I am an addict

I recently picked up a PlayStation 3. I would have to say that it was one of the best and worst decisions I have made over the last few months. Best, because it’s fun and looks amazing on my giant TV. Worst, because I can’t stop playing it. I am officially addicted. Within the first few weeks of having the system I acquired several games. My final purchase of the shopping spree was a game called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A lot of people I know (mostly Xbox users) raved about how awesome the game play was, so I decided to check it for for myself.

I’m not a huge fan of “first-person-shooters“, mainly because I tend to suck at those types of games, but I thought I’d give this a shot anyway. I’ve had the game for about 3 weeks and I have yet to play it in single player mode. The beauty of this game lies in the online multi-player mode.

I started off playing Free-For-All which is basically a search and destroy type game, with every man for himself. I have since moved on and the main “drug” of this addiction is now online multi-player team games. A game simply titled Ground War, is an 18 man team deathmatch. My buddy Dustin turned me on to that mode. It can be described in one word – chaos! Maybe its the fierce competition or maybe its the visuals or maybe I just like blowing up digital soldiers, I don’t know, but I can’t stop playing. After every game the thought “one more game” races through my head. It usually ends up being 3 or 4 more.

I think this an addiction because it doesn’t end when I turn the PS3 off. I find myself constantly thinking of ways to improve my game. What weapons should I put in my class? What perk should I have active? Should I be a martyr? Its nuts. To those that don’t play, that probably meant nothing, but if you do, then you probably know where I am coming from. I’ve heard people talk about how addicting online gaming could be, but I honestly never thought I would be one of those people.

One thing that amazes me about this game is the amount of shit talking that goes on. I have a headset, but it seems that when I have it on, I clam up. I can’t say the same for the others out there that play. Its kind of disturbing to hear a kid say that he is coming after you or to watch him blow you up with a grenade. Even more disturbing when you think about how old the kids are playing this. It is rated M for Mature, but you can absolutely tell a crackling voice when you hear one. I tend to play mostly after The Boy goes to sleep, which leads to some later than normal nights for me.

Adam, who also blogs here at Orange Street picked this game up on Sunday. He emailed me this past week. With this quote

“There is no better way to unwind from your day than playing Call of Duty. I’m addicted.”

Amen brother, I’m glad its not just me.

If anyone else out there has a PS3 and COD4, by all means email me. I’d love to have you join in my addiction. Last I checked I was a Master Sergeant. I’m sure that will change over the next sessions.

Check out the trailer for COD4 below.
